Fulfilling your passions while Roaming

What are your passions? What are those hobbies of yours that you swear you could do every day for the rest of your life and not get tired of them?

I am passionate about skiing. I picked up the hobby less than 5 years ago but it is now something I will pursue each year. I love the adrenaline rush at the top of the mountain, the thrill as I race down with each carve, and the overwhelming feeling of accomplishment that comes with reaching the bottom. And on top of all of that, I'm immersed in 360 degrees of breathtaking views. You just can't top it!

Roaming has allowed me to pursue my passion for skiing. For the past two ski seasons, Christine and I have booked stays in Lake Tahoe, California. Living in the mountains enables us to access the ski resorts when others cannot. Sometimes that's right after a giant snow storm while the highway is closed and sometimes that's simply a Wednesday afternoon! Living <20min from the world-class ski resort, Palisades, has enabled Christine and I to increase our skiing/snowboarding skill dramatically. Christine decided to pick up snowboarding and went from riding beginner level runs to expert level, black diamond runs in a season.

One new thing we tried this ski season was renting our long-term rental with our friends. We have friends who live in the SF Bay area who typically drive to Lake Tahoe to ski. Renting a place for a weekend in Tahoe can be really expensive. Christine and I decided to spend a little more money on our rental than we usually would to get a bigger house. The house we rented is a 3 bedroom home. Our friends have been able to come stay with us multiple times this season! They contribute a little bit each time they come up so Christine and I break even by the time we move out. One of the downsides to Roaming can be the loneliness that comes with leaving your friends - this model allowed us to stay connected with our SF friends throughout the ski season!

Next ski season we're planning to make our way to the Rocky Mountains to check out a whole other world of powder. I simply cannot wait to continue to invest in this passion of mine and I'm thankful that the Roaming lifestyle has enabled me to do so.
