To Be Busy or Not to Be Busy

What to do with our free time while roaming has become somewhat of a double-edged sword. On one hand, there aren’t many household chores and zero household projects to work on, so if we don’t have some “exciting enough” event planned and don’t want to go out and spend money, we can sometimes end up laying around watching TV all night for many nights in a row. On the other hand, we can feel so strongly about NOT sitting around and wasting our time that we plan trip after trip and never have a really restful relaxing weekend. The solution we are trying out for this? – Small items that get us outside. We bought a frisbee (something we both enjoy and played a lot in college), a volleyball (I’m joining a few groups on Meetup to get back into sand/grass volleyball which I adore) and two kayaks that roll up REALLY small so we can explore some of the rivers and lakes around Portland and eventually San Francisco. Side note: these kayaks are pricey, but we got them at a pretty big discount while at Overland Expo PNW 2022 (see my article about that here!). I personally can’t wait to be a little more active and not automatically turn to going out and spending $100 on dinner or a show. There’s nothing wrong with that, especially in cool cities, but it gets a little repetitive. Stay tuned for more on how our plan works out.
